Fundings Available for Heating and Insulation
ECO4
What Is ECO4 Funding?
ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation Phase 4) is a UK government-backed scheme that requires major energy suppliers to fund energy-saving improvements in eligible homes. Running from July 2022 to March 2026, ECO4 focuses on reducing carbon emissions and tackling fuel poverty by upgrading inefficient properties.
Who Qualifies?
ECO4 targets low-income households, especially those receiving certain benefits (like Universal Credit, Pension Credit, or Child Tax Credit). However, eligibility can also extend to homes with poor energy performance (EPC rating D–G) or those identified through local authority flexible eligibility schemes.
What Improvements Are Covered?
Customers may receive fully funded or heavily subsidized upgrades such as:
• Loft, cavity wall, or solid wall insulation
• Air source heat pumps or efficient boilers
• Solar panels
• Smart heating controls
• Room-in-roof insulation
These upgrades are designed to improve the home’s EPC rating and reduce long-term energy bills.
How Does It Work?
Once a household is deemed eligible, an accredited installer conducts a property assessment. Based on the findings, a tailored package of improvements is proposed. The funding is provided directly by energy suppliers, so customers typically don’t pay upfront costs.
Why It Matters for Customers
ECO4 is more than just a financial aid program — it’s a pathway to warmer, greener, and more affordable living. For homeowners and tenants alike, it’s a chance to future-proof their property, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and contribute to the UK’s net-zero goals.
GBIS
GBIS (Great British Insulation Scheme) is a UK government initiative designed to help households improve their home’s energy efficiency through subsidised insulation upgrades. Launched in 2023, GBIS targets homes with lower energy performance (EPC ratings D–G) and supports both low-income households and those in council tax bands A–D in England, A–E in Scotland and Wales. The scheme offers funding for measures like loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, and smart heating controls, helping reduce heat loss, lower energy bills, and increase comfort. Unlike ECO4, GBIS is more focused on single-measure upgrades and is accessible to a broader range of homeowners and tenants. Customers benefit from a warmer home, reduced carbon footprint, and long-term savings — often with little or no upfront cost. Understanding GBIS empowers homeowners to take practical steps toward a more energy-efficient and sustainable lifestyle.
